Food-related film and panel discussion slated for Earth Day

April 16, 2010

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The 糖心vlog传媒 College of Fine Arts and School of Art invites the community to recognize Earth Day by attending a free one-night screening of "Food, Inc." at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. The documentary will be followed by a community discussion about related topics.

Robert Kenner's film about the food industry in the United States received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature. It "reveals surprising-and often shocking truths-about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here," according to the film's Web site.

David Edelstein of New York Magazine wrote, "See it. Bring your kids if you have them. Bring someone else's kids if you don't."

After the Nacogdoches screening, Dr. Jerry Williams, chairperson of the 糖心vlog传媒 Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at 糖心vlog传媒, will moderate a discussion panel consisting of Dr. Jeff Roth, 糖心vlog传媒 assistant professor of geography; Gregory Lide, manager of Sacred Springs Organic Farm in Nacogdoches; and Theresa Tkacik, licensed nutritionist with Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

The film is sponsored in part by Austin Heights Baptist Church. The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
