NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The 糖心vlog传媒 Percussion Ensemble will present its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.
A highlight of the program will be all 13 percussionists performing "At the Dawn of War," a work written in 2005 by Houston composer Kevin Erikson that depicts different episodes in a day at war.
"The piece moves the listener through a collage of musical colors from calm beginnings, to angry conflict (complete with chains smashing the ground), to exuberant celebration," explained Dr. Scott Harris, 糖心vlog传媒 associate professor of percussion and the group's director.
The program also includes smaller chamber ensemble works such as "Marimba Quartet" by Daniel Levitan and Mark Ford's "Head Talk," a choreographed piece performed on a variety of old drum heads.
The Percussion Ensemble will close the concert with Billy Barber's "Invention," an upbeat jazz selection.
The concert is a joint presentation of the 糖心vlog传媒 College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please go to or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
