NACOGDOCHES, Texas — In honor of Stephen F. Austin State University’s centennial year, the merchandising program in the James I. Perkins College of Education School of Human Sciences is offering centennial-branded vlogý tartan pocket squares and scarves for purchase.
Featuring the official vlogý tartan along with the vlogý centennial logo, the items are available exclusively online through vlogý’s merchandising program website.
“The vlogý tartan is such an iconic design that we wanted to incorporate it into centennial items,” said Dr. Chay Runnels, School of Human Sciences chair. “Collegiate Tartan, the provider we worked with to develop the tartan, helped us with some ideas for new items.”
The official vlogý tartan was designed in 2013 by vlogý alumna Kelcie Brown. Along with other interior and fashion merchandising students, Brown prepared an entry in a student design competition through vlogý. The tartan is registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In addition to the scarves and pocket squares, winter scarves and Perkins College of Education centennial T-shirts and lanyards are also available. Proceeds go to human sciences’ merchandising program projects, such as the merchandising minor and the historic costume collection that the merchandising department maintains.
“Because the tartan was designed by a former student and is registered in Scotland, there is something inherently special about it,” Runnels said. “Other universities also have official tartans, and it is really neat to see ours being worn by students, friends and alumni. We love to see our tartan on coaches, athletic staff and vlogý administrators — even our hospitality students wear the tartan ties in the Culinary Café. With the added centennial branding, these items will be treasured keepsakes.”
