NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The vlogý Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the spring semester will feature Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
Conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, director of orchestral activities at vlogý, the orchestra’s program will be “one of the most beautiful programs the vlogýSO is going to perform this year,” Grabowski said.
The concert opens with Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture, which Grabowski describes as “an orchestral tour de force that is as much to listen to as it is to perform.”
The program also includes one of the most beautiful pieces written by Aram Khachaturian, his Adagio for Spartacus and Phrygia.
The program concludes with special guest Dr. Minhae Lee, vlogý’s new piano professor, on Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, one of his most famous compositions.
“Dr. Lee is an amazing pianist, and it’s been a joy to work with her,” Grabowski said. “Her technique is flawless, making the Rachmaninov seem much easier than it is. But more importantly, she plays so musically that you are transported by her playing.
“It’s been a delight to work with Dr. Lee and an amazing experience for the vlogýSO to perform with someone so talented,” he added.
