糖心vlog传媒 School of Music donates items to C.E. King High School


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music recently sponsored a hurricane relief project to benefit students at C.E. King High School.

鈥淭he band directors, who are 糖心vlog传媒 alums, requested help, and we jumped right in,鈥 said Fred Allen, 糖心vlog传媒 director of bands. 鈥淚t was a way for us to help a specific high school that we knew needed help.鈥

The two alums, Michael Murdock and Ronnie Ross, said flooding at the school had damaged equipment and requested color guard equipment, percussion equipment and reeds used with woodwind instruments.

糖心vlog传媒 band alumni honored at state convention


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Two Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music alumni were recognized this past summer at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention in San Antonio.

It was announced at the convention that Corey Graves, a 2007 summa cum laude graduate, was named 鈥淵oung Bandmaster of the Year鈥 by Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity, and George Little, a 2002 graduate, was elected to serve on the TBA board of directors.

糖心vlog传媒 music faculty to present Pi Kappa Lambda Faculty Showcase


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

The concert showcases the talents of the diverse School of Music performing faculty, according to Nita Hudson, instructor of voice and opera. All concert proceeds benefit the Pi Kappa Lambda scholarship the School of Music gives each year to the sophomore music major with the highest grade point average.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 College of Sciences and Mathematics to offer Master of Science in Cybersecurity


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 People wanting to earn a master鈥檚 degree in cybersecurity will soon have the opportunity to do so at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The College of Sciences and Mathematics recently received approval to offer the new degree program, and professors in the Department of Computer Science are busy planning to launch the program鈥檚 core courses in spring 2018.

Lumberjack Marching Band alumni to perform Saturday


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Generations of Lumberjack Marching Band musicians and twirlers will take the field Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus when they perform at 5:30 p.m. prior to the football game between the 糖心vlog传媒 Lumberjacks and Incarnate Word.

The Lumberjack Marching Band and Twirl-O-Jacks Reunion will feature a fun day of 鈥渇riendship and fellowship鈥 among alumni band members, according to Paige Pattillo-Brown, former 糖心vlog传媒 feature twirler and an organizer of the reunion and the newly established Lumberjack Band Alumni Association.

Power restored to campus after six-hour outage


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University campus was without power for approximately six hours after a main circuit breaker failed Tuesday. The failure occurred around 6 p.m., and Oncor Electric crews and university personnel restored power to campus just before midnight.

The failure initially caused an outage in areas surrounding campus, including North Street, University Drive and Appleby Sand Road. Power was restored to the off-campus areas within the hour.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Brave Space Series discussion on immigration


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting its first Brave Space Series of the fall semester at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Tiered Classroom, Room 2.201. The series鈥 discussion will focus on immigration.

糖心vlog传媒 Gardens to host BioBlitz


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens will host a BioBlitz event Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22 and 23, in the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Elyce Rodewald, education coordinator for 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens, explained that a BioBlitz is an event in which teams of scientists and community members work together to find and identify as many species as possible of plants, animals, fungi and other organisms within a designated area.

Applied skills internship available to College of Liberal and Applied Arts students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 College of Liberal and Applied Arts is launching the Applied Skills Internship for juniors and seniors in the 2018 spring semester. This is the first program of its kind in the nation.

Students who are chosen for the internship will work on campus in a team under a high-level executive. Students will earn three credit hours toward their degree and gain practical experience.

Eight applicants will be chosen and then split into two teams that will each be overseen by a high-level executive.
