First-year students entering Stephen F. Austin State University this fall have met higher academic standards than any previously admitted students.

The higher admission standards were approved by regents in January 2010 based on a recommendation by a committee of faculty and staff members that studied the standards in place at that time.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A successful entrepreneur and Stephen F. Austin State University alumnus will offer the commencement address during summer graduation ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 11.

"Rocket Morton," a 2012 painting by ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Assistant Professor of Art Runcie Tatnall, is one of the pieces included in "Runcie Tatnall: Mighty." The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open the exhibition at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House as part of the 2012-2013 Gallery Series.

Internationally acclaimed musicians Baya Kakouberi and Gary Levinson are among the six guest musicians who will be performing with ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ music faculty and students during the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Music's 2012 Chamber Music in the Pines Festival, which runs from Saturday, Aug. 11, through Sunday, Aug. 19.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly independent film series, the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Art will present a free, one-night film screening of "They Call It Myanmar: Lifting the Curtain" at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The 70-minute documentary, shot clandestinely over a two-year period, gives an intimate look inside the isolated country also known as Burma.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Three faculty members were appointed to new leadership positions at Stephen F. Austin State University by the Board of Regents Tuesday.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An architect and construction manager at risk for a planned conservation education facility located at Stephen F. Austin State University's Pineywoods Native Plant Center were selected Tuesday by the Board of Regents.

The board selected Sutton Mitchell Beebe & Babin Architects to design the facility and J.E. Kingham Construction Company to manage the project, which is being funded entirely through private donations totaling approximately $1 million. The facility will be constructed at 2900 Raguet St.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Scholarship applications are now being accepted for music instruction through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division. The partial tuition scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and can be applied to private lessons or group instruction.
