Woodworkers Club of East Texas exhibition showing in downtown gallery


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 An exhibition of works by the Woodworkers Club of East Texas will show through Aug. 10 in the Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Former regent to address 糖心vlog传媒 graduates during August commencement


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 Dr. Scott Coleman, clinical associate professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry and Stephen F. Austin State University alumnus and former regent, will give the commencement address during 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, in Johnson Coliseum.

Coleman received a bachelor's degree in biology from 糖心vlog传媒 in 1980 and graduated first in his class from UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry with a doctorate in dental surgery.

糖心vlog传媒 Gardens lecture to feature gardening as a lifestyle, not a hobby


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. 

Steven Chamblee, retired director of horticulture with the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center, will present 鈥淎m I Tired or Just Retired? Gardening as a Lifestyle and Not a Hobby.鈥

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the animated science fiction film 鈥淭he Iron Giant鈥 at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 Dr. Philip Catton, professor in Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of History, traded his American classroom for the bustling streets and serene lotus flowers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on a teaching adventure he couldn鈥檛 pass up.

What could only be described as a unique and rare opportunity in the teaching profession, Catton taught two courses in U.S. diplomatic history and the Vietnam War as a visiting professor at Fulbright University Vietnam during the spring semester.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 Sherry Williford, retired instructor in Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of Mass Communication and longtime advisor of KSAU-FM 鈥 now KAXM-FM Radio 鈥 has been named Broadcast Educator of the Year by the Texas Association of Broadcasters.

Williford will receive the award, which recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding leaders in the broadcasting field, during the TAB conference Aug. 8 in Round Rock.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Lance Trevi帽o, Stephen F. Austin State University graduate and music faculty member, has been invited to join the Recording Academy, the organization responsible for the Grammy Awards.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 An exhibition of work by Shaun Roberts, associate professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University and painting area coordinator, is showing through Aug. 7 at Gallery Main Street, Tyler. The exhibition was selected by Glasstire, the oldest online art magazine in the country dedicated to promoting visual arts in Texas, as one of its Top Five Art Events for the week of July 18.

糖心vlog传媒 students participate in first-of-its-kind dolphin drone research project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Flying airplane-like drones closely over the blowhole of a dolphin and collecting their breath is a new, innovative way for researchers to monitor the health of whales, dolphins and porpoises. This summer at Dolphin Quest on the Big Island of Hawaii, two Stephen F. Austin State University biology students got to be part of this groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind research.
