Lufkin native earns degree and top marks


Heather Nolan Yerkes, the daughter of Alvin and Melody Nolan of Lufkin, has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average during her educational career at Stephen F. Austin State University. Yerkes, a home-schooled student, will begin her career as a music teacher in Fort Worth. She is pictured with her husband, Jordan.

糖心vlog传媒 summer enrollment on the rise


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Enrollment in the second summer session at Stephen F. Austin State University grew slightly from 2007, continuing a modest upward trend that began in the first summer session.

糖心vlog传媒's Summer II enrollment reached 4,033, a 1.1-percent increase from the same semester in 2007 when 3,989 students attended classes. In all, 44 more 糖心vlog传媒 students attended Summer II classes this summer than in 2007.

Exhibition to feature artist Mora鈥檚 detailed block prints


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 An exhibition of work by artist Juan de Dios Mora will show Jan. 26 through March 9 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The exhibition will feature Mora鈥檚 finely detailed block prints 鈥 some printed with a single color and others featuring multi colors, according to John Handley, director of galleries for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association announced that Zachary McSwain of Spring and Morgan Pulliam of Dallas have been selected as recipients of the 2017 Mr. and Miss 糖心vlog传媒 Award.

The Mr. 糖心vlog传媒 Award was established in honor of the late Stan McKewen, a 1934 糖心vlog传媒 graduate. The Arnodean Covin Miss 糖心vlog传媒 Award honors the late alumna who was named Miss 糖心vlog传媒 in 1940, 1941 and 1942.

糖心vlog传媒 Sylvans to host 2017 Southern Forestry Conclave


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The history of Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 timbersports team, the Sylvans, is inexorably linked to the university鈥檚 forestry program. While the university mascot may be the Lumberjack 鈥 homage to the region鈥檚 rich natural resources and forest-based economy 鈥 the Forestry Building may be the only location on campus where one might see a student wielding a chainsaw, ax or crosscut saw and not blink an eye.

Elementary school to be named after 糖心vlog传媒 alumna Janet Brenner Hoover


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University alumna Janet Brenner Hoover has always had a passion for education, and now she has been given the opportunity to leave her educational mark on the world in a big way.

Recently, Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District announced it is naming a new elementary school in Hoover鈥檚 honor. The Janet Brenner Hoover Elementary School will serve pre-K through second grade students.

Cole Art Center to host "The Art of Christmas Past" display


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 In celebration of the holiday season, The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will host a display of antique Christmas ornaments throughout December.

鈥淭he Art of Christmas Past鈥 is provided courtesy of two private collectors and features a variety of ornaments, many of which are 100 years old or older, according to John Handley, director of galleries for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art.

糖心vlog传媒's Jacks Council on Family Relations serves community through Thanksgiving Homebound project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Jacks Council on Family Relations has surpassed its goal by serving more than 120 families through its annual Thanksgiving Homebound project.

Since October, the student-led group has asked members of the Nacogdoches and 糖心vlog传媒 communities to donate Thanksgiving meals to families in its adopted organizations, which include the Solid Foundation, GETCAP Head Start and The Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St., in Nacogdoches. Dr. David Creech, 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens director, will present 鈥溙切膙log传媒 Gardens: Is this Garden Adventure Out of Control or Is there a Well Thought Out Plan?鈥

糖心vlog传媒's Nelson Rusche Distinguished Lecture Series, Leadership Summit prove successful


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A packed house greeted former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush this past week as he addressed Stephen F. Austin State University students, faculty and staff, and community members during the inaugural Nelson Rusche Distinguished Lecture Series on the university's campus.

糖心vlog传媒's Rusche College of Business established the lecture series this year as a biennial event designed to bring scholars and business leaders to the 糖心vlog传媒 campus to discuss timely issues.
