NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Brass Band will perform at Stephen F. Austin State University in a free concert at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, in Cole Concert Hall in Wright Music Building.

The band of active-duty Marines is currently on a Houston-area tour under the direction of GySgt. Ken Ebo, who is also primary recruiter for the southeast region of the U.S. and is in charge of band auditions. Four additional Marine Corp recruiters will also be present at the concert.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Research and Graduate Studies recently awarded two honors and a scholarship to outstanding graduate students.

Presented annually, the awards recognize students dedicated to excellence in the pursuit of their graduate degrees. Daniel Morris of Lufkin received the Marilyn Odom Graduate Student Award; Christine Broussard of Nacogdoches received the William R. Johnson Outstanding Thesis Award; and Stella Westhoven of Village Mills received the Paul L. Boynton Scholarship for Graduate Study.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� After canceling in-person ceremonies for more than a year as a result of the pandemic, a certification program started by Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs in fall 2019 recognized its first 81 graduates during a campus luncheon in April.

Held in the Baker Pattillo Student Center鈥檚 Twilight Ballroom, the luncheon recognized faculty and staff graduates from three semesters of the OMA鈥檚 Diversity and Inclusion Certification Program. Each graduate was awarded a certificate and a 鈥淒iversity Champion鈥� miniature axe handle.

The perception of luxury was the focus of Stephen F. Austin State University professor Dr. Wenjing Li鈥檚 fifth publication, a cross-cultural study of purchasing habits among U.S., Chinese and Chinese-American consumers of high-end fashion goods.

The paper, 鈥淗ow counterfeit dominance affects luxury brand owners鈥� perceptions: A cross-cultural examination,鈥� was co-authored with three other professors and appeared in the Journal of Business Research.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 ROTC program recently competed in the national Sandhurst Military Skills Competition in West Point, New York.

The Lumberjack Ranger Challenge Team competed among 44 teams of national Army ROTC programs and U.S. military academy companies, including the University of Georgia, Texas A&M University and the United States Military Academy.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Dr. Tamey Anglley has been appointed director of bands for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.
 
Anglley will succeed Dr. David Campo following his announced retirement effective June 30 following this year鈥檚 summer band camps at 糖心vlog传媒. Anglley said she is looking forward to 鈥渃ontinuing the legacy and great reputation of the 糖心vlog传媒 School of Music and band program.鈥�
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 horticulture program will host a spring plant sale from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, and Friday, May 14, at the 糖心vlog传媒 Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.  

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Lauren Selden, professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University, was the featured artist for April at Indiana University East in Richmond, Indiana.

Selden鈥檚 public sculpture titled 鈥淐harlie鈥� is currently on display in Richmond. In an interview with Selden, she shares a look into her work, inspiration, creative process, problem solving and teaching philosophy in a YouTube video accessed at .

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Following more than a year hiatus in competing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stephen F. Austin State University timbersports team, the Sylvans, made a triumphant return during the Louisiana Forest Festival, winning the collegiate portion of the event鈥檚 timbersports competition.
