NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Intended to offer admitted students a unique and personalized look at campus life, Stephen F. Austin State University will host its inaugural on-campus Axe鈥檆epted Student Event May 1 and is inviting the Nacogdoches community to join in welcoming guests to the oldest town in Texas.

The Axe鈥檆epted Student Event will provide new undergraduates admitted for the upcoming fall semester a full-day slate of comprehensive sessions to help orient them to 糖心vlog传媒 and life in East Texas.

糖心vlog传媒 students earn statewide recognition for work on campus newspaper and yearbook


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University student journalists recently received 17 awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for their work on campus student publications.

The Stone Fort yearbook staff members received eight honors for their 2020 volume, including first-place awards in the cover design and photo story categories. The Pine Log student newspaper staff members garnered nine awards for content they produced during the 2020 calendar year.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Brett William Dietz, Peter Naughton, Michael Burritt, Christopher Deane and Andy Akiho in a virtual concert at 6 p.m. Friday, April 23.

糖心vlog传媒 theatre alumnus Richard Robichaux to appear in new Disney+ series 鈥楤ig Shot鈥


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University graduate Richard Robichaux has landed a role in the new Disney+ show 鈥淏ig Shot,鈥 an original series streaming April 16.

鈥淏ig Shot,鈥 which stars John Stamos and Yvette Nicole Brown, is the story of second chances for a hot-headed coach (Stamos) who loses his big time collegiate coaching job in the NCAA and has to start all over by teaching at a girl鈥檚 private high school.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month celebration


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs will host an event April 21 in recognition and celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month, a national holiday that takes place each May.

This year鈥檚 event will give particular attention to acts of violence that have affected the Asian American community specifically during the past year and to honor the lives lost in such attacks.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The chaos of an intensive care unit has been depicted in movies and TV shows for decades, and students in Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 School of Human Sciences got one step closer to experiencing the real thing in their medical nutrition therapy II course.

Designed to expose students to all the equipment they will encounter in a clinical environment for patient care, the course is held in a simulated ICU room at 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 of Nursing.

Himes retiring as dean of 糖心vlog传媒 College of Fine Arts


NACOGDOCHES,  Texas 鈥 Dr. A.C. 鈥淏uddy鈥 Himes, dean of the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University, will retire effective May 31 after 47 years of service in both secondary and higher education.

糖心vlog传媒 Wind Ensemble to perform Maslanka鈥檚 Symphony No. 4


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the spring semester in a performance of David Maslanka鈥檚 Symphony No. 4. The concert will be a livestreamed event performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, and accessible at .

Composed in 1993, Symphony No. 4 was commissioned by a consortium of universities including the University of Texas, Michigan State University and 糖心vlog传媒, according to Dr. David Campo, director of bands at 糖心vlog传媒 and of the Wind Ensemble.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre鈥檚 presentation of the student-directed one-act play 鈥淟ast Chance,鈥 originally scheduled for Feb. 19 and 20 but postponed because of the winter storm, will now take place April 16 and 17.

Johana Lenington, senior theatre education major from Houston, directs 鈥淟ast Chance,鈥 written by 糖心vlog传媒 School of Theatre senior lecturer Jackie Rosenfeld. The play revolves around the lives of a young married couple and issues that develop as a result of alcohol addiction.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 jazz bands to present 鈥楽wingin鈥 At The Brewery鈥 fundraiser


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Swingin鈥 Axes and Swingin鈥 Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present their 鈥淪wingin鈥 At The Brewery鈥 fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Fredonia Brewery in downtown Nacogdoches.

Admission to the outdoor concert is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the 糖心vlog传媒 School of Music鈥檚 jazz program, according to Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone and director of the Swingin鈥 Axes.
