Preview performance of festival play to be presented Tuesday


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 An opportunity to preview a performance of the play Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre students plan to tour next month at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland, takes place Tuesday night, July 25.

鈥淐losed For Repairs,鈥 written by former 糖心vlog传媒 student Bobby Britton of Angleton, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall in the Wright Music Building on campus. Admission is $10 at the door, and proceeds will benefit study abroad opportunities for theatre students.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Torn blue tarps serving as the makeshift roof of a cinderblock church gently flapped in the wind as representatives from Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture asked questions of a predominantly male group of subsistence farmers through an interpreter. Those in attendance are residents of Merger, Haiti, a small village located outside of the country鈥檚 capital of Port-au-Prince, who struggle to produce food in the dry, rocky and erosion-prone soil surrounding the community.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University Regents approved plans for the university鈥檚 future during the board鈥檚 quarterly meeting this week. Those plans include expansion to campuses at Houston Community College鈥檚 central campus and Collin College鈥檚 Collin Higher Education Center in McKinney, as well as additional programs to be added to 糖心vlog传媒 offerings at Lone Star College.

Williams named 糖心vlog传媒 Forestry and Agriculture dean


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Dr. Hans Michael Williams was named dean of Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture during the Board of Regents quarterly meeting Tuesday.

Williams joined the 糖心vlog传媒 faculty in 1993 and has served in various roles, including interim dean and associate dean of the college as well as associate professor and professor of forestry.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 fashion merchandising and interior merchandising programs in the School of Human Sciences are merging to form a new merchandising program, effective fall 2017.

Leisha Bridwell, associate professor in 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 School of Human Sciences, who will oversee the new program, explained the need behind this inclusive program.

Documentary follows creation of Steinway piano


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of 鈥淣ote By Note: The Making of Steinway L1037 鈥 at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

A feature-length independent documentary directed by Ben Niles, 鈥淣ote By Note鈥 follows the creation of a Steinway concert grand #L1037 鈥 from forest floor to concert hall.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 online master鈥檚 degree program in early childhood education has been ranked among the top 10 best online programs in the nation for 2017-18 by Top Education Degrees, a website dedicated to helping students pursuing a degree in education.

The ranking is based on several factors, including tuition, curriculum relevancy and student-to-faculty ratio.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Several Stephen F. Austin State University students majoring in geology recently completed a six-week field course where they worked on mapping projects and visited the Grand Canyon.
