NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� When Angela Bacarisse begins to consider children鈥檚 shows she may want to direct for the annual SummerStage Festival at Stephen F. Austin State University, a desire to promote and encourage reading is at the heart of the decision.

The School of Theatre professor who has directed summer kids' favorites like "The Emperor's New Clothes: The Musical," "How I Became a Pirate" and last year鈥檚 "A Year With Frog and Toad," Bacarisse often draws from personal experience and a love of reading to her own son to make the choice.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Audience members who attend the July 6 performance of William Gibson鈥檚 play 鈥淭he Miracle Worker鈥� presented by the School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University will experience a unique opportunity to ask questions and discuss the play with student actors, the play鈥檚 director and professionals within the disabilities training field.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Dr. Peter Csanyi, vice-chair for international relations and international projects, and Erasmus+ program coordinator in the Department of Political Science at Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin, Slovakia, is serving as the 2017-18 Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Stephen F. Austin State University students from the hospitality administration and filmmaking programs traveled to France in May to participate in the 70th Cannes International Film Festival, which celebrates cinematographic art with various red-carpet events, workshops, seminars, film screenings and more.

糖心vlog传媒 students worked at the American Pavilion, the center of activity at the festival for the American film community, and networked and engaged in various experiential-learning opportunities.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University students in the School of Human Sciences recently traveled to Chicago to attend the National Restaurant Association Show.

During this four-day exhibit, students learned from industry professionals through education sessions, as well as sampled unique culinary dishes, viewed emerging field techniques and technologies, and more.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 historic downtown gallery, will reopen to the public Tuesday, July 7, with a traveling exhibition of local photographer Richard Orton鈥檚 images of the Upshaw family of Nacogdoches County on display.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Silent bidding in this year鈥檚 12x12 scholarship fundraiser for the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University continues through July 15 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The purpose of 12x12 is to raise funds for FVA scholarships and grants that that are awarded to 糖心vlog传媒 art students. Between $12,000 and $15,000 is awarded annually in scholarships to deserving students in the School of Art.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University students traveled to England, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands for a behind-the-scenes look at international media.

Students enrolled in 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Department of Mass Communication鈥檚 Meet the Media course toured media organizations while abroad, including TV stations, public relations and advertising agencies, and magazine headquarters.

Dr. John Hendricks, chair of the Department of Mass Communication, expressed the benefits this experience afforded students.
