Cole Art Center announces holiday hours


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 downtown Nacogdoches art gallery, has announced its holiday hours.

With the exception of Mondays, The Cole Art Center will be open each day throughout the rest of December. Hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Exhibitions currently showing include 鈥淐ollective Transference: Houston Area Clay鈥 and 鈥淭he Patriotic Art of World War I in France,鈥 both of which are showing through Dec. 31.

Prominent donors and faculty members honored at 29th 糖心vlog传媒 Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University honored prominent donors and other individuals whose work has positively impacted the university during the 29th annual 糖心vlog传媒 Gala held recently in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Donors honored this year include Susan and Sam Calomino, Madeline and Alfred Danheim, and ExxonMobil.

Tickets to 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Chanticleer performance make great gifts


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Still looking for a unique Christmas gift for that someone who has everything? Tickets are available for the University Series performance of Chanticleer, the Grammy Award-winning a cappella choir, at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The 糖心vlog传媒 College of Fine Arts will present Chanticleer at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Economics Reading Group announces video contest winner


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Economics Reading Group, led by Dr. Ryan Phelps, associate professor in the Rusche College of Business, recently hosted a video contest about J.D. Vance鈥檚 book 鈥淗illbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.鈥

Registration underway for spring Music Prep lessons, classes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Registration is underway for private lessons and group classes offered for the 2018 spring semester by the Music Preparatory Division of the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Besides the usual 16-week private lessons in piano, harp, violin, voice, bass, classical guitar, saxophone and cello, Music Prep is introducing early childhood music classes in the coming spring, according to Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 鈥淧reparation is key鈥 seemed to be the semester鈥檚 theme for Stephen F. Austin State University hospitality students who assisted the City of Nacogdoches鈥 Main Street program in helping plan and work various downtown events.

Stone Fort Museum announces holiday hours


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Stone Fort Museum will close Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, through Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, for university holidays and exhibit installations.  

Exhibitions for 2018 will include Y鈥橞arbo鈥檚 Stone House and the Stone Fort Museum featuring artifacts John Durst and his family used while living in the stone house from 1829 to 1834.

An exhibit on 鈥榚veryday carry鈥 will examine the objects of past and present that people deem important enough to carry in their pockets, purses and packs at all times.

糖心vlog传媒 art, music, theatre professors find innovative ways teach fine arts online


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Each day for the past few weeks, Dr. Christina Guenther, professor of flute at Stephen F. Austin State University, accompanied by her husband, Dr. Ron Petti, director of collaborative piano at 糖心vlog传媒, have recorded a video of themselves performing works that Guenther鈥檚 students are working on. The videos are posted to her flute studio鈥檚 Facebook page for students鈥 enjoyment and to help them learn the music.

鈥淚 hope it keeps everyone feeling like we鈥檙e still getting to be together 鈥 at least a little,鈥 she said.

Lawrence juror for Texas National; online exhibition available soon


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Although The Cole Art Center is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, art lovers will still be able to view all of the artwork and the winning entries in the 26th Texas National Competition and Exhibition, Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 acclaimed art competition and exhibition, which can be seen virtually starting April 30 and running through June 13.

糖心vlog传媒 regents approve increase in employee tuition assistance program


The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved a program that will provide additional employment benefits to 糖心vlog传媒 faculty and staff members. The Lumberjack Education Assistance Program will increase the benefits available to 糖心vlog传媒 employees and their family members who enroll in 糖心vlog传媒 classes.
