NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Two students from Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of Biology recently placed first for the best undergraduate poster presentation at Texas A&M鈥檚 Ecological Integration Symposium.

Jordan Griffin of Chandler and Zachary Hutchens of Nacogdoches virtually presented their poster 鈥淒istribution of the non-native Sheepshead Minnow (Cyprinodon variegatus) in the Brazos River, Texas: Implications for niche overlap with its native congener Red River Pupfish (Cyprinodon rubrofluviatilis).鈥

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Nearly 20 new employees at the Lufkin State Supported Living Center are blindfolded while seated at tables in a training room. They are given objects of various shapes and sizes and asked to guess what they are.

Volunteer seamstresses expand effort to include protective gowns for health care workers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 It began a couple of weeks ago with an offer by Stephen F. Austin State University theatre faculty to sew surgical mask coverings for medical professionals on the front lines of battling the spread of COVID-19 in Nacogdoches County.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Three Stephen F. Austin State University students received first place honors for their research presentations at the annual Ecological Integration Symposium.

Jordan Griffin and Zachary Hutchens, both 糖心vlog传媒 biology majors, won first place in the symposium-wide undergraduate poster contest for their project investigating potential impacts of the non-native Sheepshead minnow on the Red River Pupfish, a species native to Texas.

糖心vlog传媒 art students plan photo booth for D铆a de los Muertos


Photography students at Stephen F. Austin State University will sponsor a pop-up photo booth at the D铆a de los Muertos festival on Nov. 3 in downtown Nacogdoches.

Students will provide lighting and a backdrop set up outside the Cole Art Center, 320 E. Main St., to make professional quality portraits of costumed festival participants and print the photos on site.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 A number of exciting events, including an art auction, a film screening and the popular community altar display, will take place at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in conjunction with the annual D铆a de los Muertos Fiesta on Saturday, Nov. 3, in downtown Nacogdoches. Other College of Fine Arts students and organizations at Stephen F. Austin State University will also participate in the fiesta.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Madrigal Singers at Stephen F. Austin State University will present 鈥淢usic of the Heart,鈥 a program featuring choral music of love and passion, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

The concert will include works by Morten Lauridsen, Cyrillus Kreek, Cl茅ment Janequin, Thomas Morley, John Dowland, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Jacques Arcadelt and others.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary 鈥淓verybody Street鈥 at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
