Austin State University鈥檚 online special education and English as a second language master鈥檚 degrees were ranked among the top 25 best value online degrees in their respective categories by Optimal, a resource that helps prospective students make informed, data-driven decisions to improve their collegiate experience and their post-college careers.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� As a marketing coordinator and camp counselor for middle school girls, Maxine McFadden knew uprooting her life to pursue a degree wasn鈥檛 an option. However, thanks to a new online degree program at Stephen F. Austin State University, she can now work toward her educational goals.

Recently, 糖心vlog传媒 launched a completely online bachelor鈥檚 degree in human sciences with an emphasis in human development and family studies. For McFadden and other nontraditional students this program is a perfect fit.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 of Nursing is partnering with East Texas Community Health Services to provide free flu vaccinations, blood glucose testing, cholesterol screening and blood pressure readings Oct. 10 through 14 at the Piney Woods Fair.

Students from the fourth semester nursing class will be set up in the Expo Center from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 3 to 10 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 campus recreation and alumni association will host the ninth annual Homecoming 5K beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus near the new Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building located off Clark Boulevard.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Concert pianist Kevin Ayesh will perform at Stephen F. Austin State University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in Cole Concert Hall as part of the 糖心vlog传媒 Friends of Music Concert Series.

Ayesh, who has presented concerts and master classes throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Hong Kong, will present a varied program featuring the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faur茅 and Fr茅d茅ric Chopin.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Join Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens for a free outdoor family day featuring archery, the Survival Supermarket and guided plant identification hikes led by students from the National Association of Interpretation, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.  

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥揟he Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed play 鈥淭rifles鈥� at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Downstage Theatre on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

Macy Rhodes, a senior theatre major from Center Point, directs the one-act play written by Susan Glaspell. It explores the psychological differences between men and women, their social roles, isolation and perceived justice.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Swingin鈥� Axes and Swingin鈥� Aces at Stephen F. Austin State University have 鈥淪omething For Everyone鈥� in store when the jazz bands perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

In the bands鈥� first concert of the fall semester, Axes Director Dr. Deb Scott and Aces Director Dr. J.D. Salas have planned a varied program that ranges from traditional swing to Latin tunes to old jazz standards and guarantees the concert theme: 鈥淪omething For Everyone.鈥�

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will partner with the Nacogdoches Public Library and its NEA Big Read Nacogdoches project to present a screening of a new William Shakespeare film adaptation by Casey Wilder Mott.
