Flute and guitar duo to perform at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Caliendo Barcellona Flute Guitar Duo will present a guest artist recital at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, in the Music Recital Hall as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series.

"The program will be a thrilling synthesis of composer/guitarist Christopher Caliendo's world music," said ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Associate Professor of Music Christina Guenther. "His compositions encompass a variety of genres, including tango, gypsy, flamenco, jazz, classical, samba and bossa nova."

Visiting artist to present free lecture at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present an artist lecture by Vincent Falsetta, professor of painting and drawing at the University of North Texas, at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, in the Art Building, Room 106. Admission is free and open to the public.

Eight of Falsetta's paintings are currently on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches as part of the "Silent Transmissions" exhibition, which will run through Saturday, March 31.

Student life depicted in ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ theatre's original 'Purple Daze'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Since January, 15 Stephen F. Austin State University theatre students and their directors have been collaborating on the script, rehearsing lines and perfecting musical numbers for the upcoming performances of "Purple Daze: A Student's Guide to Surviving Four (or More) Years At ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½."

The (New) Original Cast, the School of Theatre's musical cabaret troupe, will present the play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23; at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25. All shows are in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

Former ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ band director to guest conduct


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Kevin Sedatole, former band director at Stephen F. Austin State University, will return to campus to guest conduct the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in Cole Concert Hall.

Sedatole is one of five guest conductors who will be leading the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony during the concert, which precedes the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ bands' annual conducting symposium the next day.

Sedatole, who taught at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ from 1991 to 1996, will be the clinician. He is currently director of bands and chair of the conducting area at Michigan State University.

Poetry and music education topic of free lecture


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Mark E. Turner, associate professor of elementary music education for Stephen F. Austin State University, will deliver a lecture, "Rhythm, Language and Meaning: Expanding on the Research of Daniel Levitin," from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 23, in the Music Recital Hall (Room 160) of the Wright Music Building.
