Austin State University received nine marketing and communication awards at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's recent District IV conference in New Orleans. NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Linda Bond, assistant professor of communication at Stephen F. Austin State University, recently published a book titled "Women Negotiating Collaborative Learning: Making the Grade."

The book is an in-depth study of what college students experience when asked to perform group assignments and the disadvantage some women face while participating in group work.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to screen 'Seeds of Hunger'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly independent film series, the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a one-night screening of "Seeds of Hunger" at 7 p.m. Friday, March. 4, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The 52-minute documentary by Yves Billy and Richard Prost is a global investigation into the evolving nature of food production and the crisis it may portend.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ jazz bands' concert slated


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

Under the direction of ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Associate Professor Deb Scott, the Aces will open the concert with a varied program that includes Lars Halle's Mambo-style "Sonidos De La Calle"; Matt Harris' funk tune, "Whatsa Matta"; and Neal Hefti's famous swing piece, "Splanky."

Dr. Geneva Fung, staff accompanist at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½, will perform on all of the pieces presented during an all-Chopin faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Cole Concert Hall. Other performers include faculty members Drs. Andrew Parr, piano; Jennifer Dalmas, violin; and Evgeni Raychev, cello.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area children may register for one of two age-appropriate art workshops to be offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 10 a.m. to noon on two consecutive Saturdays, Feb. 26 and March 5, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
