Community members invited to sing 'Messiah'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations for participation in the community-wide presentation of Georg Frideric Handel's "Messiah" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, are now being accepted through the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music. Registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 3.

The school has a long history of presenting Handel's masterpiece during December, said Dr. Tim King, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ professor of music and director of choral activities. "We invite singers from around the area to join their voices with the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ combined choirs and participate in this holiday tradition."

U of H percussion ensemble to perform

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area children may register for one of two age-appropriate art workshops offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 4 to 6 p.m. on the first two Wednesdays in November as a part of the Creative Art Wednesday program. Classes will be held at the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Art Education Graduate House, located at 115 Feazell St., behind Wendy's Restaurant.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As a part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Ike: A Documentary" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at The Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ schedules guest tuba recital


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Scott Roeder, assistant professor of tuba at the University of Texas-Pan American, will present a guest artist recital at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The recital is a part of the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series and ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s fifth annual Octubafest, an event held across U.S. university campuses that celebrates the tuba and euphonium as solo and chamber music instruments.

Guest flutist to perform at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Kristin Hayes in a guest flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in the Music Recital Hall of the Wright Music Building.

Hayes and Geneva Fung, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ accompanist, will perform a variety of works, including C.P.E. Bach's "Hamburger Sonata for flute and piano," Ian Dicke's "Chapter One, Part One for flute and electronics," and Charles DeLaney's "Hymn of Pan," which was inspired by Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem of the same title.
