ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Madrigals to present concert

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ history honor society receives award


The Stephen F. Austin State University chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, received the 2010 Best Chapter Award in Division IV.

"I was thrilled beyond words that our chapter was selected," said Dana Cooper, assistant professor of history and Phi Alpha Theta sponsor. "I was very happy that the students' efforts were recognized."

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ professors to be honored at state convention


Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members Kimberly Archer Kato, assistant professor of kinesiology and health science and Michael S. Bobo, professor of kinesiology and health science, will receive awards at the 87th Annual Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance convention on Dec. 3 in Galveston.

Kato will receive the 2010 University Health Educator of the Year Award and Bobo will receive the 2010 Honor Award.

Local archaeologists discover original location of 18th-century mission


After an intensive five-year search, a team of Texas Archeological Stewardship Network (TASN) members and professional archeologists have announced the discovery of the original location of Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de los Hainais, later, "de los Tejas," in western Nacogdoches County.

The mission is the oldest yet discovered from 18th-century Spanish Texas, predating the missions and presidio in San Antonio. Additionally, Mission Concepción is the earliest location yet discovered that bears the name "Tejas".

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to open bee-related art exhibition, 'Hive'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open "Hive"--an exhibition of hexagonal shaped paintings made with beeswax, resin and pigment infused with heat--with a 3 p.m. artists' reception on Saturday, Nov. 13, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Artists to be present for 'Fired Up' closing at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The three ceramicists whose work is included in "Fired Up: Three Regional Artists Take a Contemporary Look at Clay" will be present during Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art's closing reception for the exhibition at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12.

The show, which opened on Sept. 24, includes works by Ken Baskin of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., Barbara Frey of Texas A&M Commerce, and Janet Kastner of the University of Texas at Austin.
