The large co-ed cheerleading squad at Stephen F. Austin State University secured their 11th first-place victory in the division I National Cheerleaders Association championship this month in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ pom squad and the small co-ed team each placed third in the division I competition. This year marks the 18th national victory overall for the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ spirit program.
"We've had a remarkable run, putting us on par with the top athletic teams in the nation," said Michael Preston, director of student affairs and adviser of ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ spirit programs.
Preserve America Workshop to demonstrate grave marker maintenance
A Preserve America Workshop on the maintenance and cleaning of grave markers presented by Jason Church will be held Friday, April 30, with a presentation will be held at the J.R. Huffman Public Library in Hemphill from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a demonstration at the Gasby New Zion Cemetery from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Conrad HerwigWorld renowned jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig will be the featured guest artist during a joint concert of the Stephen F. Austin State University jazz bands, the Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces, on Thursday, April 29, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. The three-time Grammy-nominated trombonist and the Swingin' Axes will perform works by Coltrane, George Gershwin and Charles Minus, including some of Herwig's own arrangements.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The program for "With Wind and Song," a concert by the Stephen F. Austin State University's Wind Symphony, on Monday, April 26, will feature compositions for band and chorus. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.
Joining the band to present Aaron Copland's "Old American Songs (Set II)" will be ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s Choral Union and Women's Choir. David Howard, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ associate director of choirs, will guest conduct the piece that was originally written for voice and piano.

Stephen F. Austin State University this week established a Lifetime Cultural Achievement Award to honor featured guests in the new Archie McDonald Speaker Series.
"The award will honor persons of significance in American culture, who will be invited here to present a lecture, talk or public conversation about their roles in the development of American culture and the impact of American culture on their lives," said Dr. Richard Berry, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
