Food-related film and panel discussion slated for Earth Day


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ College of Fine Arts and School of Art invites the community to recognize Earth Day by attending a free one-night screening of "Food, Inc." at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. The documentary will be followed by a community discussion about related topics.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Columbia Center receives awards


The Columbia Regional Geospatial Service Center at Stephen F. Austin State University has been honored for its services with two awards.

The Columbia Center received the Founder's Award from the South Central Arc Users Group for "being instrumental in changing the future of geospatial information systems in the South Central United States" at the annual SCAUG convention this March in Fort Worth, Texas.

Annual Maxwell Lecture to feature Pulitzer-nominated author Jack Sacco


The Department of History at Stephen F. Austin State University will present this year's Maxwell Lecturer, Jack Sacco, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the Twilight Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

Sacco is the author of the Pulitzer-nominated book "Where the Birds Never Sing: The True Story of the 92nd Signal Battalion and the Liberation of Dachau." The book chronicles the true story of Joe Sacco, the author's father, from his first days in boot camp through the invasion of Normandy and the liberation of an infamous Nazi concentration camp.

Undergraduate academic achievements and research will be recognized at the annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Stephen F. Austin State University from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Twilight and Grand Ballrooms of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

Nacogdoches native to receive ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Human Sciences Alumni Award


Human Sciences alumnus Robert Levy will receive the Edna Wilkin Teagarden Exemplary Service Award in Human Sciences at the Human Sciences Honors Convocation at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in Regents Suite A of the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University.

World-renowned jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig to perform at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


Grammy-nominated jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig will perform in concert with the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Swingin' Axes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. The concert marks the last event of the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ College of Fine Arts' 2009-2010 University Series.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Wind Ensemble to present "Contempo"


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Wind Ensemble will present "Contempo," a concert of contemporary band music, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

"Most of the pieces on the program were written within the last 10 years, and all were considered 'new' during their time," said Fred J. Allen, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ director of bands and conductor of the Wind Ensemble. "We're even including a new edition of a John Philip Sousa march."

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Orchestra of the Pines to present 'Grand Anniversaries'


Dr. Charles Gavin, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ professor of horn, will be the guest artist and featured soloist on Lee Actor's "Horn Concerto" during the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Orchestra of the Pines' concert at 730 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in Cole Concert Hall.
