Debt Week events to raise awareness of national budget issues


Stephen F. Austin State University will host a series of events to educate students and the public on national debt and budget deficit issues during "Debt Week: Spring 2010" April 12-15 on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Campus.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Bright Ideas Conference to highlight faculty research, scholarship and artistry


The Bright Ideas Conference highlighting faculty research, scholarship and artistry will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University.

More than 100 faculty exhibits will be on display throughout the day in the Grand Ballroom, and seven 30-minute spotlight presentations will be given in the afternoon in Regents Suites A and B. An opening session and award presentation is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nacogdoches to celebrate Week of the Young Child


Stephen F. Austin State University's Early Childhood Lab and the Greater East Texas Community Action Program Head Start invite Nacogdoches County to come together to kick off the national Week of the Young Child, April 12-16, honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children's lives.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to host National Alcohol Screening Day


Stephen F. Austin State University will host National Alcohol Screening Day from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 8, on the first floor of the Human Services Building.

The screening will help participants recognize the signs of alcohol use disorders and provide information about local support and treatment. Attendees will also have the opportunity to complete a questionnaire about their alcohol use and speak privately with a mental health counselor-in-training.

The event is confidential and open to anyone. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available.

'Texas National' juror Judy Pfaff to present lecture

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University has announced that works by three ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ alumni will be included in "Texas National 2010," which will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, located at 329 E. Main St. The show will run through Saturday, May 22.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s Original Cast to present 20th anniversary musical revue


Members of ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s Original Cast rehearse a number from "Almost Legal," the cabaret troupe's 20th anniversary musical revue, which will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, and Friday, April 9, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ music faculty members Christina Guenther and Andrew Parr will present "Stolen Moments: Transcriptions for Flute and Piano" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in Cole Concert Hall on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

New members of ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Friends of Music Board

The newest members of the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Friends of Music Board were introduced at the group's March meeting. The organization is composed of members of the Nacogdoches community who have an interest in and passion for music and who lend their support to the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Music.

Nashville photographer to present slide show at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Nashville-based photographer and videographer David McClister will present an informal slide presentation, "Outtakes & Ramblings," at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in Room 106 of the Stephen F. Austin State University Art Building. The public is welcome.

McClister, who specializes in documentary, photojournalism and portraiture, has photographed a host of celebrities ranging from Willy Nelson, Dolly Parton, LeAnn Rimes and Brad Paisley, to Vince Young and Spinal Tap. His corporate clients include Newsweek, Billboard, Outside's GO and Marie Claire.
