ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to present world-class musicians in 'French Focus' concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Four world-class musicians who comprise the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will present an evening of French music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in W.M. Turner Auditorium as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University's 2009-2010 "Ovation Season."

The "French Focus" concert features works by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Olivier Messiaen. The Chamber Music Society's acclaimed performers include pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, violinist Ani Kavafian, cellist Nicolas Alstaedt and clarinetist David Shifrin.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ jazz band concert to feature guest percussionist


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands in a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

Under the direction of Deb Scott, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ assistant professor of music, the Swingin' Aces will present a varied program that includes several arrangements by Sammy Nestico.

Guest woodwind quintet and guest tubist to present recitals at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present two guest artist recitals on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Wright Music Building on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

The Red River Woodwind Quintet, composed of the principal flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon players of the Shreveport Symphony, will perform at 6 p.m. in Cole Concert Hall. At 7:30 p.m., George Palton of Marshall University will present a guest tuba recital in the Music Recital Hall, Room 160.

Community invited to tour ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s new Music Prep House


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music invites the community to see its new Music Prep House at 3028 Raguet St. from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

The structure, which was formerly owned by the Bomar family, has been renovated to accommodate the Music Preparatory Division that provides private and group music lessons to approximately 200 area children each semester.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s 'Woyzeck' a collaborative effort


ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ students Zach Russell and Erla Brynjarsdottir, lead actors in the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Theatre's upcoming production of Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck," rehearse an intense scene. The play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 10, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Texas Archaeology Month presentation planned


Mark Wolf, a direct descendent of one of the survivors of the 1758 massacre at Mission San Sabá, will give a presentation titled "Jacales: Spanish Colonial Vernacular Architecture" during Texas Archaeology Month.

The talk will focus on the jacales, or huts, that were commonly inhabited during the 1700s and 1800s. Archaeological, historical and ethnographic information about jacales will be presented, and photographs of jacales that existed in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Texas will be displayed.

Argentinean trombone quartet to perform at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½


The Viento Sur Trombone Quartet of Argentina will present a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Viento Sur Trombone Quartet from Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in Cole Concert Hall.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to open 'Burnley-Schol Studios' exhibition


"Imagination," a linocut print from Don R. Schol's "Moonstruck" series is one of the pieces included in the "Burnley-Schol Studios" exhibition, which the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Art is presenting Oct. 9 through Dec. 5 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Linocut prints and drawings by Don R. Schol and paintings by Pam Burnley-Schol will be available for viewing in the Reavley Gallery of Stephen F.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ children's series to present 'Toying with Science'


Garry Krinsky makes use of circus skills and original music as he explores scientific principles in "Garry Krinsky: Toying with Science," which he will present at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in W.M. Turner Auditoium.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to host local writers for Fall Reading Series


The Department of English at Stephen F. Austin State University will host poets Andrew Brininstool and Kimberly Verhines during its Fall Reading Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the Liberal Arts North Building, Room 102.
