ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Theatre to open psychological thriller


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Although the run dates for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's production of Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck" are Tuesday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 10, the play's storyline makes it appropriate fare for a Halloween weekend.

Through a series of brief vignettes, the German playwright reveals the title character's descent into madness while he is serving as a human subject in a psychological/medical case study, explained Dr. Rick Jones, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ associate professor of theatre and the play's director.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to screen 'Young @ Heart'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free one-night film screening of "Young @ Heart" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The 107-minute film documents almost two months of rehearsal for the Young @ Heart Chorus, a group of two dozen seniors who specialize in reinterpreting rock, punk and R & B classics from a unique perspective.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to hold auditions for children's choir


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will hold auditions for a children's chorus that will be incorporated into ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s presentation of Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Hodie" on December 11.

Auditions will begin at 4 p.m. in Room 125 of the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus. Parents can call (936) 468-4602 to schedule an audition time.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to offer children's ceramics class


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for a ceramics class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches as part of the Creative Art Saturday program.

Under the guidance of and ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Assistant Professor Marsha Blount and art education majors, participants will construct ceramic bowls that will be used in conjunction with Bowls of Hope, the annual charity drive benefiting H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat).

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s Orchestra of the Pines to present 'Inspirational Sounds' concert

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present two guest artist recitals in Cole Concert Hall during the final week of September.

The Dallas Saxophone Quartet, composed of four ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ alumni, will perform at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, and guest tubist Angelo Manzo will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. Both recitals are free and open to the public.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ reports highest enrollment in its history


Stephen F. Austin State University has reported a fall student enrollment of 12,845, surpassing last year's figure of 11,990 by 7.1 percent and breaking the university's all-time enrollment record set almost two decades ago.

The number of ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ students attending classes grew by 855 between fall 2008 and fall 2009, marking the seventh consecutive reporting period with an enrollment increase. The highest previous ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ enrollment was recorded in fall 1990 with 12,815 students.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to stage student-directed 'Wine in the Wilderness'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Alice Childress' "Wine in the Wilderness" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.
