Horticulturist to discuss top 100 plants


The Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum will host the Les Reeves Garden Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the Agriculture Building, Room 110, located on Wilson Drive.

Dr. Jim Robbins, extension horticulture specialist and ornamentals professor with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, will be the featured speaker. He will discuss his top 100 plants in a lecture titled "Hey, I'll Trade You This Pink Flowering Fringe Tree for That Contorted Pine."

Nacogdoches native to graduate from ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ with a perfect 4.0

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Graduating with a flawless 4.0 grade-point average, Nacogdoches native Brittany Nicole Scott will be among the students receiving diplomas at Stephen F. Austin State University's May commencement exercises on May 16.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-Thomas Morrow Reavley, a Nacogdoches High School graduate and senior judge of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, will address new graduates at Stephen F. Austin State University's spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16.

Film and panel discussion on coal wars in Texas scheduled


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - A documentary about Texas coal wars and a panel discussion on alternative energies will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. The evening is a joint presentation of the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, School of Art and Austin Heights Baptist Church.

Heritage workshops scheduled


The Stephen F. Austin State University Center for Regional Heritage Research will present two heritage workshops featuring lectures and hands-on learning activities consecutive Fridays, May 1 and May 8.

The lectures will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 2.201, and hands-on learning activities will follow from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery, located on North Lanana Street in Nacogdoches.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to present choral masterwork, 'Carmina Burana'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

The scenic cantata, composed between 1935 and 1936, is based on 24 of the poems found in the medieval collection of the same title. ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s presentation will feature the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ combined choirs, orchestra, and faculty soloists Debbie Berry, soprano; Bruce Fowler, tenor; and David Howard, baritone.

El Camino Real de los Tejas Heritage Education Project continues with series of lectures


More than 30 heritage resource managers and independent researchers recently attended the first of two El Camino Real de los Tejas Heritage Tourism workshops. The group traveled to Mission Dolores Visitor Center in San Augustine and toured a section of the trace near Geneva, Texas.

Registration open for ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Summer Art Academy


Summer Art Academy participants and parents enjoy the art on display at a previous student exhibition. The ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ School of Art will once again offer its half-day, two-week program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade June 9 through 20 in the Art Building on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ names 2009 Band Directors' Hall of Fame inductee


David Lee Lambert, will be inducted into the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Band Directors' Hall of Fame and guest conduct at ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½'s "Concert in the Park" on Sunday, May 3, on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.
