ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Wind Symphony to present 'New Day Rising' concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Wind Symphony of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert, "New Day Rising: The Music of Steven Reineke and Michael Gandolfi," at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

The centerpiece of the program will be Reineke's Symphony No. 1 "New Day Rising," a four-movement work about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, explained David W. Campo, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ associate director of bands and the Wind Symphony's director.

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to present bilingual children's show on Cinco de Mayo


Teatro de la Rosa will present a bilingual children's drama, "El Conejito Verde/The Green Rabbit," as part of the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ Children's Performing Arts Series at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Symphonic Band and University Band will present a joint concert, "Journeys through Light and Darkness," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ campus.

The concert's title is a fitting one for the two bands' selections, explained Brett A. Richardson, ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ assistant director of bands. "Many of the works deal with the juxtaposition of light and dark shadows, major and minor tonalities, and beautiful songs and energetic dances."

ÌÇÐÄvlog´«Ã½ to offer children's drawing class


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for an art workshop on pen and ink drawings offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. The class is part of the monthly Creative Art Saturday program.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-The Stephen F. Austin State University Early Childhood Lab and Greater East Texas Community Action Program (GETCAP) Head Start will hold the fourth annual Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Festival Plaza in downtown Nacogdoches. The event will kick off the national Week of the Young Child, April 19-25, honoring children and those who make a difference in their lives.
