NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Swingin鈥 Axes and Swingin鈥 Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Mike Tamaro, Sammy Nestico, Alan Baylock and other jazz legends when the ensembles take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.
鈥淭his is the opening jazz ensemble concert of the spring 2023 semester and will feature some great standards in addition to more recent compositions for jazz ensemble,鈥 said Dr. J.D. Salas, director of jazz studies at 糖心vlog传媒 and director of the Swingin鈥 Axes.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 One day after celebrating her fourth anniversary as Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Equine Center supervisor, Cassandra Montesano received an unexpected phone call.
On the other end of the call was Dr. Stephanie Jones, associate professor in the Department of Agriculture and director of 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Equine Center, to inform Montesano of the news 鈥撯 she had been named one of eight recipients of the university鈥檚 2023 President鈥檚 Achievement Award.
Grand opening set for 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Health and Wellness Hub
NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Health and Wellness Hub is set for a grand opening at the end of the month that is the culmination of more than a year鈥檚 worth of collaboration among multiple departments and the university鈥檚 administration.
Scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 24, the event will celebrate the consolidation of six departments and services that used to work separately: Health Services, Counseling Services, Student Outreach and Support, the Lumberjack Food Pantry, Student Wellness and an on-campus contact for the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

Austin State University鈥檚 Department of History will host Gordon Williams, an award-winning writer, producer and director, for an event titled 鈥淏eaumont鈥檚 Black History 鈥 In Moving Pictures鈥 at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. The presentation is part of the Robert S. Maxwell Lecture Series.
Parr joins 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Music Preparatory Division teaching faculty
NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Pianist Dr. Andrew Parr, former music professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, has joined the faculty of the Music Preparatory Division, announced Alba Madrid, director of the Music Prep program.
Parr brings more than 45 years of piano performance and teaching experience to the preparatory program where his wife, Linda, also teaches piano.
