Austin State University鈥檚 Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture are working with the National Park Service and Florida State Parks to ensure the history and stories of African Americans and other people of color are properly represented in interpretive site programming.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Students in Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 hospitality administration program invite you to celebrate the Kentucky Derby on April 9, with dinner, drinks and a silent auction at The Fredonia Hotel.

The third annual Hospitality Shindig begins at 6 p.m. with a cash bar reception featuring a bourbon tasting. Dinner, which begins at 7 p.m., will be prepared and served by 糖心vlog传媒 hospitality administration students.

Derby attire, including fancy hats, pastel dresses, seersucker suits and bow ties, is encouraged.

糖心vlog传媒 seniors selected for new Brazosport ISD paid clinical teaching program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Three seniors in Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 James I. Perkins College of Education were selected for a new paid clinical teaching/internship program launched this spring by Brazosport Independent School District. Only 10 students from multiple colleges were chosen for the program.

Noelle Benavides and Kristen Truitt of Pearland and Ashali Carter of Houston underwent a thorough application and interview process for the paid clinical teaching positions at BISD.

Management students find value in community service


When Sharron and Roy Alston came to Nacogdoches in 1968, the azaleas and the dogwoods were in bloom, and Roy, a doctorate in math in need of a job, was offered a position in the 糖心vlog传媒 math department. All of it was just too much to turn down.

Goodbye, Lubbock. Hello, East Texas.

Four decades later, in 2008, Roy retired. He and Sharron, the parents of two sons, live out on four acres north of town. Life is good. But it's also catching up with them. What used to be easy isn't easy anymore, especially when it comes to keeping up with a big piece of land.

Business students exhibit leadership as president, vice president of Student Government Association


Both the president and the vice president of the Student Government Association for the 2020-2021 academic year are students in the Rusche College of Business. Chris Moore and Bre'Anna Locke are in office for their last year on campus, as both are expected to graduate in May. 

President Moore, of Carrollton, and Vice President Locke, of Dallas, took office in April.

OMA to discuss racial representation in media at Something to Chew On series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs will discuss 鈥淩ace and Representation in Media鈥 during its upcoming Something to Chew On diversity series.

鈥淎t this meeting, we will focus on the racial representation of Black and/or African-Americans often seen in media, as well as the effects and impact it has on the community,鈥 said Star Jackson, OMA graduate assistant.

NACOGODCHES, Texas 鈥 Surrounded by dense rainforest, Dr. Carmen Montana-Schalk, assistant professor of biology at Stephen F. Austin State University, dragged a net into the Rupununi River in Guyana hoping to catch a piranha. Having previously conducted research in the region, Montana-Schalk was the natural choice when the BBC show 鈥淎nimal Impossible鈥 needed an expert for an episode about piranhas.

糖心vlog传媒 A Cappella Choir to perform 鈥楽ongs for Eternity鈥 concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the virtual concert 鈥淪ongs for Eternity鈥 when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 5.

The choir will perform works by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, Ralph Vaughan Williams and William Hawley. The concert explores eternal love in both sacred and secular poetry, according to Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities at 糖心vlog传媒 and the choir鈥檚 conductor.

糖心vlog传媒 signs articulation agreement with Alvin Community College


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University President Dr. Scott Gordon signed an articulation agreement with Alvin Community College during a virtual ceremony Feb. 22 to make a clear pathway for ACC students wishing to pursue a bachelor鈥檚 degree at 糖心vlog传媒.
