NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Jean Sibelius, Anton铆n Dvor谩k and Camille Saint-Sa毛ns when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

Conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, director of orchestral activities for the 糖心vlog传媒 School of Music, the Symphony Orchestra鈥檚 centerpiece in the program will be Saint-Sa毛ns鈥� Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor featuring 糖心vlog传媒 music faculty member Dr. Evgeni Rachev, cello.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� For Camille Schrier, Miss America 2020, using her position to promote STEM education is one of her most important roles. The featured speaker at Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Women in STEM luncheon, Schrier will tell her journey so far as a woman in STEM in hopes of encouraging others to pursue STEM fields.

鈥淢y goal is to show that although pursuing a STEM career is rarely easy, it is incredibly worth it,鈥� Schrier said. 鈥淚 hope that my story can inspire those thinking about or currently pursuing science to keep working hard!鈥�

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 颅鈥� Lorenzo M. Smith, Ph.D., professor and dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State鈥� University, Sacramento, will be Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 next provost and executive vice president.

Smith earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a master鈥檚 from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan; and a doctorate in engineering mechanics from Michigan State University.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University announced the creation of its Distinguished High School Program Tuesday and named Nacogdoches High School as one of six partner schools across Texas.

Inclusion in the program means all students from NHS and partner schools may waive the $50 application fee, and seniors ranking in the top 30% of their class are guaranteed admission to 糖心vlog传媒.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 dance program will livestream senior choreographic works during its production of 鈥淒anceworks: Origins鈥� at 7 p.m. April 8 through 9 and 3 p.m. April 10.

鈥淭he theme of the concerts came from a wide array of research topics,鈥� said Heather Samuelson, dance program coordinator and assistant professor in 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Department of Kinesiology and Health Science. 鈥淭his is one of the most diverse productions the senior choreographers have crafted.鈥�

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� For the second consecutive year, Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 student chapter of The Wildlife Society received the Student Chapter of the Year Award from the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society during a virtual conference held in February.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Last summer, digital audio networking world leader Audinate published an article commending the Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Sound Recording Technology program for its use of Audinate鈥檚 cutting-edge Dante networking platform.

The article explained that by using a Dante-backed audio-over-IP system, SRT could alter workflow so multiple students were actively engaging with a production 鈥� allowing for more hands-on educational opportunities.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Stephen F. Austin State University Police Department has acquired two new community relations vehicles. These vehicles will help promote UPD鈥檚 mission statement of providing a safe environment for all students, faculty and staff on campus.

鈥淭he CRVs allow us to interact with people on campus in a new and safe way,鈥� said  Robert McDonald, UPD police officer II. 鈥淲e can be more present on the campus and better establish a relationship with community members.鈥�

Sponsored by 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Organization for Women鈥檚 Leadership and Equity, or OWLE, the teach-in will kick off with a session by Judy McDonald, former Nacogdoches mayor and the namesake of the city鈥檚 public library.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Rehearsal time lost during spring break is always a consideration for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music as it prepares to present the 糖心vlog传媒 Opera Theater each spring.

But throw in an additional seven days of lost rehearsal time caused by an unprecedented winter storm that shut down the entire state of Texas for a week, and you have a situation that demands creative, detailed scheduling to make up for lost time.

Dr. Deborah Dalton, associate professor of voice at 糖心vlog传媒, believes the voice students can and will rise to the challenge.
