If approved, funding would be used to establish collaborative research center

An effort by Stephen F. Austin State University to establish the Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation 鈥 where faculty, staff and students can engage in research development projects that support academic programs and boost regional economic development 鈥 began Monday with the approval by the Board of Regents of a $3.57 million Economic Development Administration grant application to provide a physical location for the center.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Nathan Daughtrey, Francisco Perez, R眉diger Pawassar and other noted composers in a virtual concert at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Angela Bacarisse had been looking forward to directing 鈥淭he Fantasticks鈥 as part of the Mainstage Series this fall for the School of the Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The theatre professor had eagerly anticipated the casting, costuming and scenic designs for the funny, romantic musical about the love between a boy and a girl amidst the meddling of their two fathers.

Then came COVID-19.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 dance program will livestream senior choreographic works during its production of 鈥淒anceworks: The Effect鈥 at 7 p.m. Nov. 12-13 and 3 p.m. Nov. 14.

Unlike past years, only the performers鈥 immediate family members may attend the concerts in person in the HPE Complex, Room 201, because of COVID-19 guidelines.

On-campus internships can create opportunities for students, departments


Employers are seeking internship experience when reviewing recent graduates鈥 r茅sum茅s. In fact, research from the National Association of Colleges and Employers states that internships often carry more weight than major, GPA or leadership roles in the hiring process. However, due to disruptions caused by COVID-19, off-campus, private-sector internships are not as numerous as they once were.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play 鈥淭he Bald Soprano鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus. The show will also be livestreamed.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs to host celebration for Native American Heritage Month


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting 鈥淲here We Stand: A Celebration of Native American Heritage鈥 from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Baker Pattillo Student Center Multimedia Room.

The event is free and open to the public, but due to COVID-19 guidelines, only a limited number of people will be allowed to attend in person. Others can participate virtually on Zoom or Instagram Live via OMA鈥檚 Instagram page, @omasfa1991.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Members of Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Jacks Council on Family Relations are gearing up for their annual food drive, Thanksgiving Homebound.

Recognized last year by the National Council on Family Relations as a model student-run project, Thanksgiving Homebound has helped more than 100 local families every year since 2011.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 A collaborative relationship between the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and Southern Methodist University鈥檚 Guildhall game development program is paving the way for 糖心vlog传媒 music/composition students to be highly successful in the lucrative video game industry.

Three 糖心vlog传媒 students are teaming up with a cohort of graduate students at Guildhall to work on a project that will give them valuable real-world experience and put them in the forefront of the industry that scores music and creates sound design for video games.
