NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

糖心vlog传媒 Department of Geology to celebrate Earth Science Week


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of Geology will join the American Geosciences Institute in celebrating Earth Science Week during an event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, on the third floor of the Miller Science Building.

For the open house event, visitors who have minerals, rocks or fossils they would like to have identified are encouraged to bring them for a free identification service. Guests also will have the opportunity to use an augmented reality sand table and create their own artwork.

糖心vlog传媒 and Tyler ISD鈥檚 Head Start to launch partnership with celebration


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University and the Tyler Independent School District Head Start program will launch their new partnership with a celebration at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at the St. Louis Early Childhood Center, located at 2800 Walton Road in Tyler. This celebration is open to the public.

糖心vlog传媒 Wind Ensemble to present 鈥楾he Music of Viet Cuong鈥


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble will perform its first concert of the semester when the student ensemble presents 鈥淭he Music of Viet Cuong鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

Described as 鈥渁lluring鈥 and 鈥渨ildly inventive鈥 by The New York Times, composer Cuong鈥檚 music has been performed on six continents, according to Dr. David Campo, director of 糖心vlog传媒 bands and the Wind Ensemble. Cuong is a visiting composer in the 糖心vlog传媒 School of Music.

Prize-winning artist Birmingham to perform concert at 糖心vlog传媒


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 鈥淵oung Talent鈥 is the program theme when guest artist Blake Birmingham performs a euphonium recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Featuring Birmingham performing pieces from the 2018 and 2019 Leonard Falcone Euphonium and Tuba Competition, the program will also showcase the talents of Hyun Ji Oh, piano accompanist at 糖心vlog传媒, and Dr. Danny Chapa, low brass faculty in the School of Music.

Office of Multicultural Affairs moves spring events to virtual formats


Hoping to continue providing the campus community with an outlet for open discussion in such trying times, the Office of Multicultural Affairs staff members have transitioned the remainder of the OMA鈥檚 spring semester events to virtual and online formats.

鈥淲e had already begun discussing adjusting some of our programs and events to be tailored to an online format,鈥 said Jalon Berry, OMA assistant director. 鈥淎lthough this transition came sooner than expected, we are glad we are able to promote diversity and inclusion digitally.鈥

糖心vlog传媒 student teachers extend online lessons in response to demand, local stay-at-home order


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Amid new city and county stay-at-home orders to help slow the spread of COVID-19, Stephen F. Austin State University student teachers are still helping children in the Nacogdoches Independent School District learn.

Student teachers in 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Community Responsiveness and Engaged Advocacy in Teacher Education program, or C.R.E.A.T.E., have planned live activity lessons from 2 to 3 p.m. CDT on Mondays and 10 to 11 a.m. CDT on Wednesdays via Zoom through May 6.

糖心vlog传媒 alumna named among Best New Poets of 2018


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Tennessee Hill, a recent Stephen F. Austin State University graduate, was recognized for her poem, 鈥淪tripling鈥檚 Florist Pharmacy,鈥 in 鈥淏est New Poets of 2018,鈥 an annual anthology of 50 poems from emerging writers published by the University of Virginia Press.

The poem was included in Hill鈥檚 senior thesis for her Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing. It was inspired by the Nacogdoches floral shop she passed daily on her way to class.

Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of Agriculture receives grant


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of Agriculture received a $3,000 student recruiting grant from the U.S. Poultry Foundation during the 2018 International Poultry Expo held in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hristov, Hu to present violin, piano guest recital at 糖心vlog传媒


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Guest artists Miraslov Hristov and Chih-Long Hu will present a violin and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in Cole Concert Hall at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The performance is part of the 糖心vlog传媒 Friends of Music Concert Series and will showcase some of the great standard chamber works for violin and piano, including pieces from the Classical, Romantic, and 20th century periods, according to Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola in the 糖心vlog传媒 School of Music.
