糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Percussion Ensemble to perform diverse concert selections


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present its first concert of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

The diverse program includes works by Dr. Brad Meyer, director of the 糖心vlog传媒 percussion studio and the Percussion Ensemble, Steve Reich, Jacob Druckman, Nick Werth, Joe Moore, Eric Sammut and Joseph Aiello.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Orchestra of the Pines presents season opening concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Orchestra of the Pines at Stephen F. Austin State University will present its season opening concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

Pierre-Alain Chevalier will debut as the orchestra鈥檚 new music director, and he has selected a program that features works by Richard Wagner, Edward Gregson and Ludwig van Beethoven.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Brave Space Series discussion


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Office of Multicultural Affairs at Stephen F. Austin State University will host its first Brave Space Series of the fall semester at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Multimedia Room. The series鈥 discussion will focus on the Latinx community and culture.

糖心vlog传媒 timbersports team wins second annual Lumberjack Match


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Members of the Stephen F. Austin State University timbersports team, the Sylvans, personified the university鈥檚 mascot during the second annual Lumberjack Match held at the Ouachita County Fair in Camden, Arkansas.

During the Lumberjack Match, participating universities competed in a range of traditional timbersport events, such as crosscut sawing, bowsawing, log chopping, and axe and knife throwing.

Poverty simulation event scheduled at 糖心vlog传媒


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 An event hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs will simulate what living in poverty might be like during its Poverty Simulation from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 5, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

鈥淒uring the simulation, participants will experience some of the daily challenges a family living in poverty could endure during a simulated experience of one month,鈥 Veronica Beavers, director of OMA, said.

糖心vlog传媒 to celebrate enrollment milestones


Two historic milestones are being celebrated this month at Stephen F. Austin State University. In addition to the 95th anniversary since its founding in 1923, the university has marked its first enrollment of more than 13,000 students.

The total enrollment increased more than 4 percent, from 12,614 students in fall 2017 to 13,144 students this fall. An increase in undergraduate students, from 10,985 to 11,398, accounts for a portion of the increase, along with more than 100 additional students in the graduate school, which currently enrolls 1,746.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Department of History will host Dr. Kurt Kemper for a discussion on 鈥淪ports, Values and Anxiety in American Culture鈥 at 7 p.m. Sept. 25, in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142, on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Music Prep to host Middle School Choir Camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Music Preparatory Division in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will host its annual fall Middle School All-Region Choir Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in the Wright Music Building on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

The choir camp is designed to help East Texas area middle school students learn their UIL all-region competition music, according to Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division.

糖心vlog传媒 School of Theatre to present Pulitzer Prize-winning 鈥淪weat鈥


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 A play that speaks to working class Americans with real-life issues opens the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre鈥檚 Mainstage Series this fall.

Lynn Nottage鈥檚 鈥淪weat鈥 won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, for a five-night run at 糖心vlog传媒 in what will be the play鈥檚 Texas premiere.

Using a backdrop of industry job cuts, downsizing and poverty, 鈥淪weat鈥 gives working class people a voice, according to Cleo House Jr., director of the 糖心vlog传媒 School of Theatre and of the play.

糖心vlog传媒 theatre students to present 鈥楽eascape with Sharks and Dancer鈥


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Playwright Don Nigro鈥檚 鈥淪eascape with Sharks and Dancer鈥 will open the fall semester of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre鈥檚 student-directed plays.

Directed by Center senior Avery Tindol, the full-length play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Downstage Theatre on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.
