Locomotive and log car find new homes to celebrate their history


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Moving operations will begin Wednesday, Oct. 6, for the 36-ton Shay locomotive located outside Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Forestry Building. Following its transport to Harbor Springs, Michigan, the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society and its partners will conduct much-needed renovations and display the locomotive where it will introduce visitors to the contributions of Ephraim Shay, inventor of the Shay locomotive and longtime Harbor Springs resident.

糖心vlog传媒 School of Theatre to present student-directed 鈥楾he Shadow Box鈥


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed full-length play 鈥淭he Shadow Box鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

Directed by Houston senior Johana Lenington, 鈥淭he Shadow Box鈥 is written by Michael Cristofer. Winner of the 1977 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play, 鈥淭he Shadow Box鈥 is about death and dying and explores the end-of-life experiences for three terminal cancer patients.

Showcase events return to 糖心vlog传媒 campus with new flexible slate


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Prospective students and their families now have three options for exploring the Stephen F. Austin State University campus with a new, revamped slate of Showcase 糖心vlog传媒 events.

In addition to the university鈥檚 long-standing Showcase Saturday, which invites future college students to experience a taste of campus life through an action-packed open house event, 糖心vlog传媒 also has added Showcase Preview and Virtual Showcase.

糖心vlog传媒 music faculty Walburn, Nixon to perform music by women composers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 鈥淪potlight on Women Composers鈥 will showcase works written by living female composers in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The recital features 糖心vlog传媒 School of Music faculty member Jacob Walburn, assistant professor of trumpet, in collaboration with Thomas Nixon, piano, performing works for trumpet written by contemporary female composers. In making program selections, Walburn said he realized his past recitals included very few compositions written by women.

糖心vlog传媒 student chapter of The Wildlife Society receives national recognition for second consecutive year


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 For the second consecutive year, Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 student chapter of The Wildlife Society was named Student Chapter of the Year by the national office of The Wildlife Society.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great feeling of satisfaction,鈥 said Cassandra Kapp, 糖心vlog传媒 forestry student and student chapter president. 鈥淲e worked so hard and didn鈥檛 think it was possible to win it again.鈥

Kapp credits winning the award to the chapter鈥檚 ability to recruit, engage and retain members despite complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Brian Oswald receives top recognition from alma mater


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Dr. Brian Oswald, Joe C. Denman Distinguished Professor of Forestry at Stephen F. Austin State University, received the Dwight Patterson Alumnus of the Year Award from Northern Arizona University in recognition of the outstanding success he has achieved throughout his professional career.

The Rusche College of Business Names Dr. Stephanie Ross as the inaugural recipient of the Sammie Smith Professorship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy within the Rusche College of Business recently awarded the Sammie Smith Professorship to assistant professor of accounting Dr. Stephanie Ross. The new professorship was created through an endowment by Professor Emeritus Dr. Sammie Smith.

The purpose of the endowment is to retain and attract quality faculty to the Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy. Dr. Kelly Noe, director, says it will also have a positive impact on students. 

糖心vlog传媒 Gardens October lecture series to offer kiwifruit presentation from AgriLife Extension specialist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University's 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Dr. Timothy P. Hartmann, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Specialist from College Station, will present "All You Ever Wanted to Know About Growing Kiwifruit."

糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Noche de Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting Noche de Gala, an annual Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Baker Pattillo Student Center Plaza. The event honors the Latinx and Hispanic cultures through educational activities, performances, cultural cuisines and music.

鈥淲e invite students, staff, faculty and community to come learn, network and join us in the celebration,鈥 said Veronica Beavers, OMA director. 

糖心vlog传媒 Symphony Orchestra to perform works by Copland, Marquez, Wolf-Ferrari


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Arturo Marquez, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari and Aaron Copland on its first concert of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.
