Recital to highlight works for flute, piano
NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Selected works for flute and piano by Eric Ewazen, Jake Heggie and Stephen Lias will be showcased in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches.
Samantha Inman, assistant professor and coordinator of music theory for the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University, and Tracy Cole, piano accompanist for Lufkin ISD, First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches and the newly established Stone Fort Chorale, will present 鈥21st Century Works for Flute and Piano.鈥

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 A faculty recital that reflects on life through folk music, nature and spiritual allegory will be presented by the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University.
New music faculty member Bob Eason, saxophone, will perform with guest artist Michael Seregow, piano, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life will host the annual Homecoming Stroll-Off at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.
鈥淪trolling can be attributed to the historically Black fraternities and sororities in the early 1900s,鈥 said Veronica Beavers, director of the OMA. 鈥淭his was a time when many African Americans faced discrimination and obstacles at college institutions. Strolling and stepping showed pride, strength and unity among these organizations.鈥
Historian Dr. Douglas Brinkley to visit 糖心vlog传媒, discuss 鈥楧iscovering America from the Road鈥

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Dr. Douglas Brinkley, CNN presidential historian and professor of history at Rice University, will present 鈥淒iscovering America from the Road鈥 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Stephen F. Austin State University in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater.
Originally slated for Sept. 14, the event was postponed due to inclement weather.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The student jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present their fall fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Fredonia Brewery in downtown Nacogdoches.
鈥淪wingin鈥 at the Brewery鈥 will feature the Swingin鈥 Axes, directed by Dr. Deb Scott, and the Swingin鈥 Aces, directed by Dr. J.D. Salas. New this fall is a third student jazz ensemble, Swingin鈥 Jacks, directed by Dr. Jacob Walburn, which will also perform.
糖心vlog传媒 Human Sciences students help community members develop nutrition, cooking skills through Cooking Matters program
NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥撯 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 School of Human Sciences and the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler are partnering in an effort to help curb high levels of food insecurity in East Texas through a six-week Cooking Matters program.
Since 1993, the Cooking Matters campaign has taught families and caregivers with limited food budgets to shop for and cook healthy meals. This is the sixth year the university has partnered with the food bank to provide the informative and interactive program to the community.
