NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 From the moment Jake Hill鈥檚 flight landed in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, he knew the next three months of his life would be unlike any other he had experienced.
鈥淚 got off the plane at noon on a Friday, and the reserve manager picked me up and said, 鈥業 know you鈥檙e a bit tired, but we鈥檝e got to go dart some cape buffalo,鈥欌 said Hill, a senior studying forest wildlife management at Stephen F. Austin State University. 鈥淚 hadn鈥檛 even unpacked, and I was out darting buffalo in need of medical attention.鈥
