NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of 鈥淩ango鈥� at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

This Academy Award-winning animated film directed by Gore Verbinski stars Johnny Depp as the voice of Rango, an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff and town hero.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� The Piney Woods Camerata at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a holiday concert featuring 糖心vlog传媒 harpist Emily Mitchell at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus.

The ensemble is made up of string faculty and students at 糖心vlog传媒 with Geneva Fung, staff accompanist, as harpsichordist.

The concert will feature mostly Baroque concertos that are also Christmas concertos, composed especially for the season, according to Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola and ensemble member.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Celtic music all the way from Ireland will signal the opening of the Christmas holiday at Stephen F. Austin State University when the College of Fine Arts presents a special performance of the internationally acclaimed professional ensemble Dan煤 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the 糖心vlog传媒 campus as part of its 2016-17 University Series.

Andrew Sperandeo, director of the Rockin鈥� Axes groups, chose a theme that chronologically followed popular music through the decades because he wanted his students to experience 鈥済reat music and great artists.鈥�

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� Artwork created by Gary Frields, an artist and former Stephen F. Austin State University professor of art who passed away in 2013, has been on exhibit in 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Culinary Caf茅 throughout the fall semester. A closing reception will be held for the exhibit from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Culinary Caf茅, located in the Education Annex, Room 121.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥� A Stephen F. Austin State University music composition student is bringing international attention to his work and 糖心vlog传媒.

Tyler sophomore Jesse Edwards will soon have one of his compositions premiered at the 2016 Alfred Schnittke International Composers鈥� Forum and Competition in Lviv, Ukraine. His woodwind quintet, 鈥淪aturday Afternoon,鈥� will be performed Dec. 7 in the concert hall of the Lviv Philharmonic Society.
