糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Music Prep plans 40th anniversary celebration to involve entire community


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an all-day music festival on Saturday, May 1, at the Music Prep House, located at 3028 Raguet St.

The outdoor event will feature the talents of Music Prep鈥檚 outstanding student musicians and give local merchants the opportunity to showcase their businesses while showing support for the School of Music鈥檚 outreach program, according to Alba Madrid, Music Prep director and program instructor.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre鈥檚 presentation of the student-directed one-act play 鈥淟ast Chance,鈥 originally scheduled for Feb. 19 and 20, has been rescheduled for April 16 and 17.

Johana Lenington, senior theatre education major from Houston, directs 鈥淟ast Chance,鈥 written by 糖心vlog传媒 School of Theatre senior lecturer Jackie Rosenfeld. The play revolves around the lives of a young married couple and issues that develop as a result of alcohol addiction.

糖心vlog传媒 Gardens to host reservation-based spring plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 糖心vlog传媒 Gardens will host the much-anticipated spring Garden Gala Day Plant Sale in a modified, reservation-only format April 10 through 14.

The plant sale will feature a wide variety of Texas tough perennials, shrubs and trees. Many hardy southeastern native plants will be available as well as colorful annuals, exotic tropicals and a variety of edible plants. An extensive plant list will be made available online when registration opens.

Wind bands at 糖心vlog传媒 to present 鈥楰aleidoscope鈥 virtual concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will present the livestreamed concert 鈥淜aleidoscope鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2.

Conducted by Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands at 糖心vlog传媒, the Symphonic Band opens the concert with a performance of 鈥淥ld Home Days,鈥 a suite of short songs arranged by Charles Ives.

鈥淭he six movements feature the pleasant warmth of Ives鈥 Americana sentiments as well as the humoresque bitonal dissonances for which he was famous,鈥 Kaatz said.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs will present 鈥淪tudent Guide to Surviving Your PWI,鈥 the second installment in its Brave Space Series of the spring semester, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 3.

OMA to host fourth annual Women鈥檚 Empowerment Summit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 A wide range of topics concerning women in leadership, health and wellness, and other women鈥檚 issues will be discussed during the fourth annual Women鈥檚 Empowerment Summit, hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Office of Multicultural Affairs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 19.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year鈥檚 summit will be held via Zoom.

Veronica Beavers, OMA director, is excited to host an event that empowers women and educates the community on issues women face every day.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥揟he Singin鈥 Axes and Kantorei choirs at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the program 鈥淐hoose Something Like a Star鈥 featuring music set to poems by Robert Frost and Walt Whitman at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2. The concert will be livestreamed only and accessible at .

The choirs are directed by Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities at 糖心vlog传媒.

Fish said he chose this theme because the poems of Frost and Whitman 鈥渟peak to the heart of America, but in different ways.鈥

Lumberjack Express serves ice cream inspired by Girl Scout cookies


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 卢Lumberjack Express food truck patrons can purchase a special dessert created by Chef Todd Barrios, clinical instructor of human sciences at Stephen F. Austin State University, and his culinary students in honor of Girl Scout cookie season.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been fun creating ice cream based on the cookie flavors,鈥 Barrios said. 鈥淲e are looking forward to adding this to our offerings on the Lumberjack Express.鈥

On Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch, patrons visiting the student-run mobile lab can purchase two scoops for $2 cash. Upcoming flavors include:

糖心vlog传媒 opens virtual Axe Handle one-stop shop, launches chatbot


NACOGDOCHES, Texas 鈥 Stephen F. Austin State University visitors, students and their families now have centralized access to key student services through the university鈥檚 new Axe Handle one-stop shop, a virtual assistance center, and its recently launched 24-hour chatbot, Jack.

Both the Axe Handle and the chatbot it oversees will assist with matters related to 糖心vlog传媒鈥檚 Office of the Registrar, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Business Office, Student Success Center and Residence Life. All calls made to these offices will be automatically redirected to the Axe Handle.
